NICOLE Kidman is set to play 1960s singing sensation Dusty Springfield in a new movie.
Newspaper reports in Britain say Kidman will team up with screenwriter Michael Cunningham, who wrote her Oscar-winning role as Virginia Woolf in The Hours, for the film project. The movie will chronicle Springfield's rise to fame, her battle with drink and drugs as well as her bisexual affairs.
Springfield is famous for a string of catchy hits including I Only Want To Be With You, I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself, You Don't Have to Say You Love Me and Son of a Preacher Man.
"It will be the real Dusty, a great artist who no one knew what to do with," Cunningham said.
"But she is going into history with The Beatles and The Rolling Stones."
The 59-year-old Springfield died of breast cancer in 1999.
