Inside American Idol's Ballot Box

I don't care about American Idol. But a lot of people do --to the tune of 578 million votes cast in the singing contest during the course of last year's show alone. Many more people tried to cast their lot via the call-in polling system, but were blocked by frequent busy signals. It's left fans aggravated and raised questions as to whether the contest is violating federal laws regarding game shows.
